What is Addiction?
Addiction can be
defined as the mental and/or physical dependency on a substance. We have found
that despite the endless list of causes for addiction and the different types
of drugs people become addicted to.
In each and every case there appears to be a problem or discomfort that seems to overwhelming to them. At some point a drug is introduced as a temporary solution to that problem and it makes them feel better. Therefore, the next time they're faced with it or a similar situation, they seek out the drug again to fell better. This then escalates, tolerance builds and then dependence and eventually full-blown addiction.
Ultimately the solution for addiction is to address more than just the symptoms of the drug or alcohol use. It would help find the original situation or set of problems and find alternative solutions that don't involve drugs. This is the ultimate form or rehabilitation and is the goal we seek when helping someone overcome addiction - to handle it once and for all and move on with life with no more substance abuse issues.
